Down and Out Live in London and Paris
About
Down and Out Live focuses on the phenomenon of homelessness both in the past and present day. Produced by LBP in collaboration with The Orwell Foundation, UCL’s Festival of Culture and The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, this immersive production was based on the autobiographical work by George Orwell ‘Down and Out in London and Paris.’ It was read live by over 40 politicians, artists, celebrities, activists and members of the homeless community. At the same time actor musicians would physicalise the text: performing what was bring read, combining music, live projection and dance to create an immersive world audience members could walk in and out of. This live theatrical event was directed by award winning director Hannah Price, and featured celebrity readers included Simon Callow, John Snow, Dame Harriet Walter, Ben Aldridge and more.
Originally performed at Stone Nest, Charing Cross Road London, it was then taken to La Générale in Paris
