Whilst working at the Old Vic tunnels under Artistic Director Hamish Jenkinson, I ended up working for Olivier award winner Marisa Carnesky’s in her production of Carnesky’s Tarot Drome’ as both ASM and a performer.

This two-hour large-scale promenade and stage show is where surreal living installations, a live art-rock band and a highly-charged roller-skating troupe take you on a personal journey through the tarot.

“A dreamlike journey, Carnesky’s Tarot Drome takes you through giant penny arcades where slot machines and laughing policemen have been replaced by life-size tarot characterisations. An esoteric end-of-the-pier tarot reading brought to life in a surreal, disorientating spectacle. Choose your ‘cards’, engage with their rituals, marvel at their mystifying beauty, root for them as they roller-skate through this extraordinary montage of live art, music, symbolism and performance. “

26 performers from a variety of disciplines have now worked on Carnesky’s Tarot Drome. Opening with a cast of 15 radical performance artists from the UK, Slovenia and the US – including wrestling stars, a television tarot reader and a live art-rock band – it now tours either with a minimum core cast of ten (each member taking on at least 2 characters), or with a cast of up to 26 (with separate performers playing each card).

“Carnesky’s Tarot Drome invites and enables us to embrace agency and change. Just pick a card” ★★★★ — Time Out London

“The high priestess of circus wonders comes up trumps” — Times Higher Education

“A self-consciously surreal circus” ★★★ — Libby Purves, The Times

Critics’ choice — Time Out London

“It was everything and more, a very special and creative show… I loved watching the audience engage and become spellbound.” — Tania Harrison, Latitude arts curator
